When I started in the trading business (back in the olden days, as my grown children delight in reminding me) I was told that I would not be worth a pinned nickel until I spent 10,000 hours reading charts. Being an obedient youngster on Wall Street, I did what I was told and sketched charts with trend lines, regression channels that expanded and regression channels that were narrowing, support and resistance, and a dozen other suggested chart notations until I thought I was going to lose my one-cell brain. I learned to trade through reading and trading charts.

Chart reading is still an essential skill in learning to trade, yet it seems that, as time goes by, fewer and fewer traders value this skill. Very few of the struggling intermediate traders that I work with have even the most rudimentary chart reading skills and the suggestion that acquiring these skills for success is seldom met with much enthusiasm.

What has happened to chart reading?

I have never seen a study of this topic, so my answer is subjective in nature. My opinion is chart reading began to lose favor when J. Wells Wilder published his classic, “New Strategies in Technical Trading Systems” in 1978. With some of the tools that Mr. Wilder introduced chart reading could be reduced to a couple of studies at the bottom of the page. These price studies gave traders the illusion that entries and exits could be gleaned by reading these technical studies and trading could be mastered.

In subsequent years a whole crop of technical studies has come into existence and many of the struggling intermediate traders that come to me are often completely dependent on reading oscillators and indicators that reside below the main chart where the actual price action is printed. Therein lies the terminal trap that many traders find themselves; they don’t know chart reading.

I have claimed in many of my articles that it is my belief that the astonishing rate of failure of novice traders can be directly attributed to the trading methodology currently being taught as the “gold standard.” My thesis is as follows: Many of the popular trading education programs develop the “indicator of the day” and teach traders to trade off of these indicators. Further, they don’t emphasize chart reading as an essential skill. It is often passed over as something “you can do if you feel it will help you.” Nothing could be farther from the truth.

If you are an e-mini scalper, trading lagging indicators and oscillators (which all lag, despite what their authors may claim) is pernicious to successful e-mini scalping because they lag the actual price action by as many as 10 ticks, depending on which indicator or oscillator you choose to employ. This is akin to starting a 100-meter dash 10 meters behind the other competitors.

On the other hand, chart reading is done in real-time and decisions are made in real time. The function of indicators and oscillators in my trading world are as secondary confirming indicators. I seldom, if ever, initiate a trade based on on a study that I know lags the price action by a considerable number of bars. For example, if you have a target of 20 ticks and start 7-8 ticks behind the price action it is very difficult to scalp the e-minis’ because you are a day late and a dollar short.

In summary, I encourage your to put some real effort into simply reading charts. I often practice trading on Market Replay using only volume and price action and chart reading tools like trend lines and support/resistance. I don’t know that you have to spend 10,000 hours pouring over charts like the old timers believed, but I do know that if you can’t read a chart your chances of becoming a successful trader is greatly reduced.

Ok, now this does not happen to me often but I have just finished reading a professional journal and found myself inspired by an article. You really need to take on board what I am about to reveal, give it some thought and act upon it. It’s a concept that would enable you and your colleague’s to reach even loftier heights. Its simple and I just wish I would have come across the idea years ago.

It is about adding extra value to everything you do. It’s not enough to carry out the work you were contracted to do. You have got to add value by massively over delivering and you can do this whilst still generating good profits.

Apply this concept correctly and the benefits to your client will be enormous and more importantly you and your business will also benefit and will thrive. The demand for your services will increase exponentially and you will not need to continue prospecting, constantly knocking on doors on the look out for new clients, they instead will come to you. You will not even need to spend as much money advertising your services as your clients will do this for you by word of mouth.

However the concepts can be used for all your dealings with others. If you do more than is expected, than those that benefit, will be very appreciative as they are getting a lot more from you than was contracted for and the word will spread. Over deliver and you will be measured against those who do not. Add value and you will be sought out and you will benefit from recommendations and endorsements to the degree that you will be recognised as a centre of excellence and work and opportunity will come to your door. As you become recognized for delivering added value, you are in fact developing your personal brand and the level of compensation for your services will increase. You will become a leader in your sector.

If you transfer this concept to your personal dealings you will soon be seen as a leader of your community. This always is the case for those who go beyond expectation. So always deliver added value in everything you do. Just think about it, the fact that the majority of people are delivering as little as they can get away with, serves as a major advantage to you when you follow this concept and always deliver added value.

I often hear from wives who really want to make their marriage work no matter what. But they often aren’t sure if it is going to be possible, especially since they often don’t have the cooperation or the interest of their husband. As a wife who has been there, I know how this feels. You feel as if you’re trying to row upstream all by yourself with no help from your husband.

I heard from a wife who said: “my husband and I have been struggling for several months. He’s started hinting about a divorce, but this is the last thing that I want. I truly want to make my marriage work, but he has shown very little interest in cooperating with or helping me. I’ve suggested counseling or taking a trip together. I’ve offered to make concessions or hear him out. But nothing that I’ve put on the table has been accepted. He just doesn’t seem interested in making any changes or improvements. And I suppose this would be OK except for he makes it very clear that he is not happy with the way that things are. So clearly, things need to change. But I’m not sure that I’m going to be able to change things myself without his cooperation. Is there any hope at all that I can make my marriage work without his cooperation?”

Actually, I think there’s a good deal of hope. I was in this situation also. My husband wasn’t interested in helping me to make our marriage work in any way, shape, or form. And, for a while, I considered my situation hopeless and even thought about giving up. But I decided that I didn’t have anything to lose by trying to make some changes on my own.

And you know what? Over a gradual period of time, improvements began to happen. And once my husband began to see that things were changing for the better without any substantial difficulties on his part, then I saw his resistance begin to lessen. And I believe that this process is possible for many couples. The key is that you have to make the process seem pleasurable and not too terribly hard on a resistant husband.

Here are a few things that you might want to consider. Often, the issues in the marriage have been present for some time. This can contribute to your husband thinking that things are never truly going to change. So when you come along and propose counseling, talking, or many other things that don’t seem all that fun, he has his doubts that your new proposal is actually going to work anyway. So often the husband will think things like: “so she’s asking me to sit in a stuffy counselor’s office and pay hundreds of dollars when nothing is going to work anyway?”

This is often the level of doubt that you are dealing with. And this is one reason that he will often be reluctant to cooperate. He can see it as a waste of time. And he can also see it something that is going to be awkward or painful. So understand that you have a couple of things to overcome. First, you need to show him that things actually can change. And second, you need to show him that these changes don’t need to be too difficult for him to accomplish. Once he begins to see these things, you will often see him being much more receptive.

So, How Do You Work Things Out On Your Own?: So now that I’ve covered some of the things that you have to overcome, let’s talk about how this might work in a real situation. In this wife’s scenario, one of their main issues was the fact that their marriage had become stale and the intimacy was gone. Because of this, every time they tried to address their problems, there was a lack of interest and animosity. So nothing was ever resolved. I suggested that the wife first try to recreate some intimacy and empathy without worrying about the end result as it related to the marriage. In other words, I suggested that she just worry about reconnecting and having some fun together before she started dwelling on their problems.

This would allow the process to feel somewhat effortless. And here’s something that many people don’t consider. Once some of the intimacy and empathy returns, the problems just don’t seem as large anymore. Because both people care about the experiences of the other, each person is willing to cooperate and compromise so much more and suddenly the problems that you were struggling so hard against seem smaller and more manageable.

That’s why it can be very important to try to tackle only one thing at a time. It can be counter productive to try to work out your problems before you are clicking and getting along again. I know that it’s tempting to want to feel as if you are quickly addressing your issues. But understand that if you try to do too much too soon, you run the risk of your husband watching as you fail once again. Commit to tackling the easiest things first so that you are creating more cooperation as you go along. The more you can have fun with your husband, the more he is going to cooperate with you, even if he doesn’t realize that he’s doing it and even if he has no idea that his receptiveness is helping to work things out.

Typically what happens is that one day you realize that your marriage is in fact working out even if that’s not what you are calling it and even if your husband has no idea that he’s acting contributing to, rather than resisting, the process.

We all have dreams – outcomes we would really like. But often the obstacles seem too great. So they stay dreams, never making it into reality.

We feel stuck, so we try to get on with day-to-day tasks and struggle to ignore the frustration. This is a heavy brake on our performance. In his brilliant book ‘The Inner Game of Tennis’ Tim Gallwey first showed a new way to look at this:

Performance = Potential – Interference

Gallwey found that, as a tennis coach, his clients improved their game much more as he told them less what to do. Giving instructions appeared to interfere with their learning.

Instead he focused on helping the client increase their self-awareness, finding then more of the player’s potential automatically became real. Moving on from tennis, Gallwey’s approach has been applied in many other fields. It seems universal, so we can apply it too.

This means that if we are unable to reach the goals that really matter to us, we can turn the situation around by reducing the interference we experience.

This interference can come in many forms and when it rises to a certain level, we become completely stuck.

Here are 4 key principles to getting unstuck:

1. Start from where you are

It’s easy to set conditions and prerequisites, such as “I’ll start when I’m qualified” or “I’ll start when I’ve finished the project” or the classic “I’ll start when I’ve got more time”.

Remember you’re aiming to start, to become unstuck. That means taking some action now. You can only start from where you are, otherwise you remain stuck.

2. Be yourself

We can fall into the trap of thinking that we can only start if we follow the example of someone else. This example could be a real person or a more general sense of the ‘right way’. In either case, we impose a major constraint on ourselves.

By all means use a role-model when it helps you towards your goal but if it hinders you, change the role model!

3. Be kind

It’s amazing that we sometimes give ourselves harsh and damning treatment that we wouldn’t dream of giving to another person.

If you’re stuck, beating yourself up about it is unlikely to help. Sure, you can be determined but be sensitive. Use rewards and encouragement just like you would to get the best from another person.

4. Use your natural motivation

If your car was stuck in the mud, getting it moving again would be more important than the exact direction you take. You can always correct the course later.

Take the first steps where you have motivation to do so. This builds some momentum which you can then turn more exactly towards your goal. This is the secret behind the wisdom “If you want something done, ask a busy person” because that person already has loads of momentum.

Once started, you will begin to move towards your goal. If things ever get ‘sticky’ again you can revisit these principles to free up your progress.

When you begin to mediate, do you assume the pose right away? Maybe you need to just sit down on a chair first to get yourself ready to mediate. Once you begin, you don’t want to move around or adjust too much because that will distract you and break your flow.

Proper breathing is essential to meditation. Are you breathing from your diaphragm or are you breathing from your chest? Breathe from your diaphragm very slowly and very deep. Pay close attention and actually visualize your breathing. This will help with your concentration.

The point of meditation is to relax and feel centered. If you can do this, your spirit will take you to a meditation style that will be perfect for you.

Use Props

If you are not using anything during your meditation sessions, you may want to make use of some props to help you concentrate better. Here are some suggestions:

· A candle or some incense may help to soothe you
· Soft music may help you to relax
· Sit on a blanket or a pillow
· Cuddle with your favorite stuffed animal

When you first begin to mediate, it can be awkward. Your mind can get distracted easily by negative thoughts or about the stress that is going on in your life. You probably just need to practice more and concentrate on pushing those negative thoughts and the stress aside. Visualization can help you with this. It will take a lot of practice, but it does work.

If a technique or a pose is not comfortable for you, that will be a distraction. Move around or change your position until you find something that is comfortable. Maybe you can’t cross your legs without pain. Then, sit on a chair.

Meditation is very important for your inner peace. Don’t give up. Just keep experimenting and practicing on a regular basis and that peace that you have been searching for will come back for you.

Plastic Surgery has been around for a long time. Its history and family tree are rooted in surgery – hence its name! Most people could easily rattle off a list of the most “stereotypical” of Plastic Surgery procedures – breast implants, liposuction, tummy tuck, “nose job” or the facelift. Our vocabulary echoes our familiarity. We talk about, for example, someone’s home improvements as undergoing a “facelift”. Doctors embarking on a career as a plastic surgeon must undergo intensive training after graduating medical school in their attempt to achieve the status of a board certified plastic surgeon. Plastic surgeons are surgeons – they work in operating rooms and surgicenters, applying their craft and talents to reshape and sculpt the face and body using sophisticated surgical techniques.

Or do they?

Most of the top talented and skilled plastic surgeons today have become a part of the irony in the evolution of plastic “surgery”. Namely, that the “surgery” aspect of the specialty has increasingly taken more and more of a “back seat” to the non-surgical side over the past several years. These are welcome, wonderful changes – the techniques are less invasive, less costly, less risky, and often with little or no recovery to speak of. But when more of what you do is non-surgical rather than surgical, it does seem a bit odd to still call oneself a “surgeon”.

In 2005, there was a 10% increase in the number of cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S., yielding a final total of some 10 million plus total cosmetic procedures for the year! But an incredible 80% of that increase was due solely to the increased popularity of non-surgical procedures. For the first time since statistics like these were being followed, the classic calling card surgery of the plastic surgeon – the facelift – was no longer among the top five most popular surgical procedures! What happened? One word – Botox®!

Long before 2005, Botox® had begun helping people to look younger, more rested, and more awake by actually eliminating the cause of their wrinkles rather than by surgeons trying to tighten, iron out or burn the wrinkles away. The wrinkles are truly gone because the tiny muscles responsible for them are relaxed for months at a time by a single, simple, office Botox® treatment. The wrinkles are not being made and the longer they are gone the less intense they come back, if ever. Combine all that with higher, better arched eyebrows, a more “open” look to the eyes, and a smoother, less line-burdened forehead and things like browlifts and facelifts just don’t seem all that necessary for whole lot of people. How many people? Over 4.5 million Botox® treatments are performed annually in the U.S. alone!

In 2006, there was another 10% increase in the number of cosmetic procedures, but once again, 80% of that increase was due to people having more and more of the non-surgical procedures. Nonsurgical procedures, already comprising well over 80% of all the cosmetic procedures being performed in the U.S., had begun to grow at more than double the pace of that for surgical procedures. In almost every year since 2005,that gap has been ever-widening. The browlift had become quite unpopular, joining several other facial surgical procedures rendered less desirable as options as compared to simple Botox® treatments. Botox® use was now responsible for nearly half of all the nonsurgical procedures being performed each year!

In 2008, this gap significantly widened. Cosmetic procedures took their hit as a faltering economy led to an overall 10% decrease. But nearly 100% of this decrease was for surgical procedures alone. Non-surgical procedures were essentially unaffected. Botox® use had actually increased by 537% since the year 2000! Meanwhile, browlift numbers had plummeted by more than 65% during that same time frame!

In 2009, the surgical/non-surgical numbers gap took an even bigger quantum widening leap. As the poor economy lingered, surgical procedures sustained another drop of about 10%. But non-surgical procedures actually showed an increase in numbers by 10%!

Browlifts have continued to be a shadow of their former glory, almost like a surgical antique, while Botox® seems to gain more satisfied supporters every day. Botox® has continued to grow in popularity, and is currently up by about 584% over the past 10 years! So, what ever happened to the browlift? It is almost gone, but not forgotten, and still has a value and use to Plastic Surgeons and their patients alike. However, the browlift is clearly just one of many casualties in the war between non-surgical and surgical procedures. A war which has resulted in non-surgical procedures becoming the dominant part of what Plastic “Surgery” is really all about, and what it most likely will be increasingly all about in the foreseeable future.

• Misunderstood – You explain your point of view and someone else goes on a completely different tangent from what you are saying. You feel: Invalidated.

• Judged – You drive to a meeting and a fellow colleague comments on how your car ‘needs a bit of work.’ You take this as a personal attack; why should the state of your car matter? You feel: Hurt.

• Disrespected – You organize a meeting, set the time and place, and make all the arrangements and detailed planning. At the last minute, your boss decides not to go because he can. You feel: Unsupported and shunned.

• Not affirmed or acknowledged – You are the one who came early and stayed late each day to complete a rush project; in fact, you got it done under budget and on time. Your boss does not even thank you and actually takes the credit! You feel: Angry and overlooked.

Did you know that these four types of situations are what cause most of us to conjure up some emotional resistance to what is going on?

What do you do with these feelings?

1. Bottle them up so tightly that you stop feeling altogether?

• This is okay to survive, but not to ultimately thrive.

• We end up by going numb.

• We block out the fear, anger, frustration and pain.

• And we end up blocking out the good feelings of pleasure, joy and love as well.

• This is common for those who want to protect our co-workers, friends and family from our problem.

• We act as if everything is okay and even put on a happy face, but….

• All is takes is for the TV to be too loud or the garbage to be overflowing in the staff room for us to blow up and display bitter or sarcastic behavior.

• We may even pick a fight to channel our frustrations.

Knowing what you do with your feelings (awareness) is important in order for you to:

1. Identify how you come across to others and

2. Understand how you physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually handle your emotions to determine who you want to be.

For those of you who wish to enlarge your penis, I’m sure you’re greeted with various methods to achieve this. The penis enlargement industry is now worth billions of dollars and is growing every day. However, out of all the methods to make your penis bigger which one should you choose?

1) Penis enlargement surgery – Surgery is something that scares most guys (me included). After further investigation and research, surgery is something that i never would consider. 3) Penis enlargement exercises – This is the only way to enlarge your penis naturally. There are specific exercises that concentrate on increasing length, while others work on girth. Certain exercises will even strengthen the pubic muscles, allowing you to keep your erection harder for longer. Medical journals that report the results of specific studies done to test and measure the results of a particular supplement would be the best and most reliable source of information. It’s not always easy to get your hands on the results from these types of studies however. Another place to get answers about supplements would be from reliable authority websites like WebMD or the Mayo Clinic’s website.

The fact of the matter is that there simply have not been many studies done to answer the question does creatine work? and either prove or disprove its effectiveness. Although more studies will be needed it is also a fact that many bodybuilders and athletes use creatine supplements on a regular basis and they do this because they believe that it works.

What is known about creatine is that it is a naturally occurring compound that our bodies produce and that we also get from eating meat and fish. Home improvement companies large and small know that getting their message heard by homeowners in need isn’t easy. Home improvement contractors are everywhere, and each is vying for attention. Open any given value pack mailer or local coupon publication and you will see page after page of home improvement ads. From lawn services, landscapers, deck, pool & patio contractors to roofing, siding and windows, carpet, bathroom, sun room and basement remodelers, the list goes on and on.

So as a contractor, how do you get your message heard? What marketing works, what doesn’t, and what aren’t we sure about? The answers depend somewhat on your local market and your budget, but here I provide some sure things that can be done no matter what your market or budget, and some tips on making the most of all of your efforts.

What Works

When I say ‘What Works’, I am talking about items that I have personally used to market my clients that I wouldn’t hesitate to employ for any home improvement company. These are methods that have proven time and time again to be worth the investment. There are very few ‘sure things’ in home improvement marketing, but I’ll bet on these methods every time.

Website – Now more than ever, the standout method of marketing that continues to show solid return on investment (ROI) is your website. Day after day, night after night, your website – if done right – can generate lead after lead. I’ve seen home improvement companies that do ZERO cold-calling and canvassing, and still generate millions of dollars in revenue due in part to their investment in a well-done, highly-optimized website. The key, however, is the ‘well-done’ part. Frankly, any jackleg contractor can get a website – maybe even an attractive one. But without the proper construction and search engine optimization techniques, it will serve as little more than an online brochure. Do yourself a favor and find a search engine pro that can analyze your site and help make changes that will get it working to generate quality leads.

Pay-per-click (Google) Advertising – Your website, as well-optimized as it may be – can’t possibly achieve top ranking for all of the key words and phrases that you need to reach your audience. Today’s searchers in many cases are using broad terms like ‘lawn service’ to find what they need. And at last check, on Google the term ‘lawn service’ yielded 9,400,000 results. If you’re part of one of the large franchises, you have a chance of being found. But if you’re Joe’s local lawn service, fagettaboutit. Your only hope in that broad search is to have your site pop up in the Sponsored Listings, or pay-per-clicks. Setting up Google pay-per-click advertising takes a little know-how, but is certainly available to anyone.

Signage – Contractors are on the road and in neighborhoods far more than they are in any office. They are out and about, all over their covered area day after day. Outfit those trucks – whether they are pick-up trucks, step vans or large vehicles – with nicely done signs, and you have yourself a rolling billboard. Forget the subtle vinyl lettering or magnetic sign – spend a little more on a colorful wrap (no need to wrap the whole thing – doors, the back window, and/or tailgate will do) and you will surely get noticed. In addition to vehicle signs, be sure to put a yard sign at every single installment. A yard sign is as good as a personal referral. And in today’s busy society when time spent talking to your neighbors can be few a far between, it allows the opportunity to broadcast to an entire neighborhood that one of their own has put their trust in you for their latest project. I’ve even seen home improvement companies provide incentives to homeowners for keeping the signs in their yard for extended periods of time. Well worth it.

Ratings-based Organizations – Organizations like the Better Business Bureau and Angie’s List allow their members and/or the general public to rate their experiences with contractors. And while many contractors shy away from these organizations for fear of bad ratings, my experience has been positive with these services. That is, of course, if you are reputable contractor. If you’re a successful contractor who has built a business based on referrals and quality workmanship, these services will speak for themselves. And when you do get you’re A+ rating, use it. Post it on your website and in ads, and it too can serve as a virtual referral.

Social Media Marketing – While the jury is still out on exactly how to track the direct return on your social media marketing investment, I wouldn’t hesitate to set aside a small amount of time and marketing budget for social media marketing. Why? Well for one, it’s about as low-cost as you can get. It has the potential to be viral, and strong testimonial/referral benefits are there as well. It also tells the world that you are on top of things – you’re progressive and stand out as a leader in your field. I don’t recommend spending 2 hours a day tweeting, but spending 10 minutes a day to post an item or two to your Facebook business page and Twitter account can have great benefits.

PR – Getting into a regular routine of doing press releases about anything you can think of that might catch the attention of the local press is worthwhile. After a while, regular releases containing good information will catch the attention of the local media. You may even become their go-to people for home improvement information. Invest a little time in putting together a press-kit with your leaders’ biographies, a one-sheet about your company, and any articles, guides, or content you have is worth doing once a year. Then, be on the lookout for news worthy things to write about – significant new hires, a government regulation that affects your industry or homeowners, new products and services can all be spun into information that reporters will look out for.

Sales Support – One often overlooked area of home improvement marketing is sales support, however when done right, it can have an amazing return. Companies hire a guy, hand him some business card, send him on his way and expect great returns. Your sales team is the face of your business to customers, and you no doubt spend time agonizing over who to hire. So when you have a good team in place, do the right thing and arm them with the proper tools to make the sale quicker. Online presentations, e-mailable resource links, business cards, and leave-behinds should all be high on the list of items that your team has in their sales toolbox.

What Doesn’t Work

‘What Doesn’t Work’ is based on experience, and consists of items that you’d have to hold me down and force me to spend money on. That’s not to say that in some cases, some markets they don’t work, but at best, I consider these items to be hit or miss.

Large Phone Book Advertising – When I say ‘large phone book’ I am talking about the big yellow pages books. It’s no secret that these directories – in print – are dying. With internet availability everywhere and a strong push toward environmental responsibility, directory companies are scrambling to stay alive by offering online options. Unless you’re tracking your phone book response diligently and seeing a return, my advice would be to get out. Or at least reduce to in-column listings.

Pay-per-lead Services – For the contractor who has no other method of getting leads, this might be a source to get started, but in my experience, pay-per-lead services don’t work. Typically they are pricey, and they sell the leads they get to multiple contractors. Even the ones that promise exclusivity have turned out to be duds. Whether they are the major players or the smaller ones, all have had the same results. Very low quality leads and at a cost far too high.

Value Pack Mailers – Coupon-based value pack mailers are the definition of hit or miss. If you catch a home who opens the pack, and if he or she has an immediate need for what you’re selling and if he or she is attracted by the ad or offer, you might get some action. That’s a lot of if’s. In my experience, these packs are not cheap, and they are loaded with home improvement companies. In fact, during the writing of this article I received one in the mail. Out of the 45 ads in the pack, 22 of them – nearly 50% – were from home improvement companies. Can I possibly stand out in a crowd like this, and hit the homeowner at the exact right moment? Hmmmm…not really liking those odds.

Pricey Print Advertising – While some may argue that a flashy ad in a magazine has branding appeal, I have seen very little direct return on this type of investment. To get into the magazines, your money would be better spent doing PR that will get you a text mention or even an article.

What Might Work

The items that fall under the category of ‘What Might Work’ are items that are hit or miss, but have the added intangible value of branding. So while we can’t necessarily measure all of the effectiveness of these efforts, we have a sense that they do have some value. The recommendation on these would be to keep the dollars spent in check, but give the activities that fit your budget a shot.

Broadcast Advertising – Broadcast advertising is great for getting your name out there, but can be really expensive. A savvy marketer can find some diamonds in the rough – broadcast efforts that have a decent reach and a decent price tag – but they are hard to find. If broadcast is a part of your mix, try your best to track your efforts. Put landing page URL’s on your ads, whether they are radio or television ads, and a tracking phone number. Create an offer that is unique to the spot for additional tracking. And by all means, with this and every other marketing effort, talk to your customers about how they heard about you initially. If you hear ‘I heard/saw your commercial’ over and over, you will have a sense that it is working.

Event Marketing – Events range in size and price from affordable local events like street festivals and school-sponsored events to large home and garden shows, wine festivals, etc. The large shows can be tough to see a big return on – they are expensive to secure space, and expensive to haul your stuff and staff – and you can get lost in the noise of dozens of other companies just like yours. Smaller, more localized events, though, can have a nice return. While you won’t be getting a huge quantity of leads, you will likely have more time to spend with the people you do meet, and you won’t be competing with too many other companies like yours.

Direct Mail – The options for direct mail vary from mass mailers that can cost a fortune for printing and postage, to smaller, more cost-effective efforts. In my experience, stay away from mass mailings. The return is very low. However, neighborhood mailers from companies like Quantum Digital can have a decent return. When you are able to choose a select set of streets to mail to, you can keep your cost down by doing small runs, and you can piggyback on other efforts. For example, if Joe’s Roofing is doing a nice roof on Maple Street, Joe’s team knows when the install is happening. If they have their marketing efforts in sync, they can log into the mailer system, and choose Maple Street and its surrounding streets to mail to. Then, while his crew is there with their trucks (that have great signage) and there’s a nice job sign in the yard, the neighbors will receive a “We’re working in your neighborhood!” mailer. Bam! You have 3 solid hits to an entire neighborhood with very little cost.

Low-cost Print Advertising – It is tough to cut through the clutter with print advertising, but I have seen some success in choosing specialized, low-cost publications. School papers, and local papers with classified ads or event listings, can provide the benefit of showing community support, can showcase your branding, and may even get you a few leads.

OK, so now that you have an idea of what home improvement marketing can work for you, let me give you the single best piece of advice that I can give for making it all work. It’s the same advice I give to young parents who want their kids to stay in line. One little word with big consequences when not followed…consistency.

When you are inconsistent with your efforts, it’s advertising sabotage. When things look and sound different across each marketing effort, you are missing the opportunity to plant yourself in the brain of your target audience. I see contractors who use their logo five different ways. I see those who have really nicely designed ads in one location, and really lousy looking ones elsewhere. Invest the time and money into having a pro establish your brand’s look and feel. Whether you’re doing social media marketing, broadcast advertising, search engine optimization or total home improvement marketing from A-Z, stay consistent in your efforts. Everything from your logo, colors, style and your key marketing messages, to brand tone and personality should carry through all of your efforts.

There is so much junk floating around the web and being passed off as “seduction techniques.” You can’t even ask a close friend for dating advice because nine times out of ten he has no clue of how to attract women. Ever since man has had the capacity to ask questions: there has been one that has perplexed us all.

What do women want?

There is no simple answer to this question but there are some universals that hold true in almost every situation. When you get more advanced and become what I like to call the natural ladies man you will be able to adapt to each woman.

Before we move on, I want to make something clear. Never believe anyone that tells you that you can have any woman you want. That is delusional and an outright lie!

The average man can’t even seduce the majority of women that he desires. It is possible but it would take years to reach this level, warning; be prepared to devote much of your time and energy applying your seduction techniques on highly resistant targets.

Well, back on course, what do women want?

They want someone who listens. I know. I know. You hear this all the time. This is the number one thing that can change everything for the better. Having someone that genuinely listens and is interested in what we have to say is a rare quality in our fast paced world of today. Trust me on this one.

Women want a man that is confident. Confidence can’t be learned or taught. The true way to confidence is by reclaiming your true identity. You do this by embracing your unique personality and be yourself instead of what society says you should be.

When you do this you become as a unique work of art among a pile of mass printed black and write newspapers.

Your goal is to become naturally confident instead of faking and forcing it. When you force confidence you become rigid and people can sense the subtle vibes of anxiety no matter how hard you try to hide them.

Seduction techniques are more numerous than even an advanced practitioner can master but when you once you embody the core essence of attracting women you won’t need a bag of tricks and will be light years ahead of these “pick-up artists.”

Remember, it only takes one woman to keep a man satisfied for life.

One of the big questions I come across often in my job as a marriage counselor is how to make marriage work. You’d think that this is something mankind would have figured out by now but no.

Look around you. Marriages are falling apart the day after the wedding. People fall in and out of extra-marital affairs like they’re changing underwear. Half of all marriages end up with the people involved saying it’s over, let’s call it quits.

I know more people who are separated or divorced from their spouses than I do people who are happily married. The people I look up to the most when it comes to figuring out how to make marriage work? My parents who got married in their twenties and remained together for 67 years so I asked them what advice they would give to couples who want to know how to make marriage work. Here’s what they shared with me —

1. Never give up on your spouse or the marriage

No matter how tough things were or what happens, you just can’t give up on your husband or wife, or for that matter on the marriage. The attitude to have is your marriage is a precious thing that you will preserve and grow always.

2. Remember no one is perfect

We will all make mistakes which we will probably regret. You need to become your spouse’s best friend which means to recognize and cherish him or her whatever their flaws, and to be the first to forgive when things go wrong.

3. Be upset at the action but love the person

One of the best pieces of advice from my parents on how to make marriage work is the principle that people can do dumb things so you focus on the action but you continue to love the person no matter what. In other words, you separate the person from his or her action.

4. Never go to sleep with something unresolved

I hear this on TV all the time so imagine my surprise when my parents told me it’s one of the principles they lived by. If you ever have a disagreement or a fight, don’t go to sleep upset with each other. The marriage will last longer and you’ll both live longer too.

5. Don’t be prideful

Pride is one of the biggest culprits of marital breakdown. If you can learn to put aside your pride when things get rough, nothing is impossible to work through together.

Once, my parents had such a rough patch, they put aside their pride and asked our family pastor to step in and help get the marriage on track. For me, I take this to mean that, in today’s fast-moving world, you don’t lose anything asking for marriage help whether from a pastor or from a marriage help expert. Better to ask for help than to have a marriage not work.

We have all taken vacations and stayed at marvelous independently owned boutique resorts and bed and breakfasts. We marvel at their attention to detail, their value, their friendliness, and the hard work and long hours the owners put in to make us happy. Many of us have probably said because of a good experience, “I would love to open a bed and breakfast or small resort someday.”

This year more than ever, small independent resorts and B & B’s need your vacation dollars. Not only have they always had to compete against the large impersonal chain hotels and motels while having a fraction of their advertising and marketing budgets, but they have always had much higher operating expenses because of the great amenities they have for their guests compared to chains.

This is not the year to decide to cut back on vacationing at your favorite boutique resort or B & B as they may not be around next year.

We have all called to make reservations at a favorite place, only to sadly find out it went out of business and thought, “that was such a nice little resort, we have such wonderful memories there, I wonder why it went out of business.” They went out of business because people stayed at chain hotels on their vacations.

Many people don’t appreciate small businesses in America. It is like what happened with the “Wal-Marting” of America. Wal-Mart moved into small towns, people start shopping at them. All of a sudden their neighbors who owned small businesses went out of business. Downtowns declined, property values went down, Wal-Mart got rich and people said, “what happened to our town?” Every time they shopped at Wal-Mart, they were responsible for the decline in their own towns.

The same is true with small resorts. Everyone loves staying at them. But, this year, the year of the staycation may drive your favorite small resort out of business and you will have no one to blame but yourself. Small resorts need your help more than ever. They need for you to get relaxed and pampered at them. They need for you to forgo vacations overseas. Stay in the US and support fellow Americans with your vacation dollars.

And don’t just go on weekends. Everyone wants to go to a boutique resort on a weekend. For instance nice small resorts turn away hundreds of guests wanting to stay with them on Valentine’s Day because they are full. Go before Valentine’s Day. Go midweek. Go off season on vacation. That is how you will help small resorts and B & B’s.

This is the year to vacation at your favorite independent hotel. Vacation in the good old USA!

Did you ever imagine that you can have a long lasting relationship? Well, yes it is possible and on hand. A relationship that is just normal: with struggles but consistent. Make your relationship work!

Soul mates as they believe is simply unique in this world, you can have one all your life. Thus, it is very much fulfilling having a “soul-mate” relationship that could last for a lifetime and will just be separated by death. But, why do we need to make our relationship work? Is it necessary for us to live our life with one relationship that could last forever?

As human, it is inherent unto us that we search for true and unending happiness. Thus, searching for it demands us to accomplish series of events and social goals in our life. As proven by science through theories and principles, to be successful in life, one must overcome each crisis and accomplish each developmental task that comes his or her way. And one of those is the task to look and engage for a long term relationship and communion with someone.

“It takes two to tango” as they say. To maintain a relationship on working, both individual involved must work for it. The deeds needed to be done must be an effort by both partners or must be done as a unit, as a couple. Along with these “helping-acts”, each one must contribute for the welfare of the relationship, compromise as needed. Both of you must have trust, respect and understanding for each other. It is a must that the two must know how to make efforts, give and prioritize. Value each other!

Always be open and communicate well all your thoughts, feelings, opinions, views, and values to your partner for you to facilitate cooperation and understanding. Apply active listening skills and have enough time to attend the needs of each other. Have time to enjoy each moment you have with your loved one. Time as they say is gold, thus time is also precious for a relationship to last. It will make your partner feel that they are valued enough and loved so much.

Adjust to the differences the two of you possess. Learn to love them by accepting their flaws and weaknesses. Don’t get problems run and direct your life as a couple. Lend your two ears to listen and your whole being to help look for interventions in every crisis the two of you are having. It must be a give-and-take relationship. Contribute and Share!

Never let trust fade out. Incorporate loyalty and fidelity in every thing that you will be doing. Work hand-in-hand and heart-to-heart in accomplishing your common goals and aspirations as a couple. Work on your relationship every single day that the Lord has made for you to share and cherish.

Well, like a fairytale, it is much endearing to end a life’s story with a happy and fruitful ending. It may need not to be difficult and impossible as it seem. Make your relationship work for a lifetime, because as a co-author of your own life, ending your story by growing old and dying with your soul mate with a soulful relationship is just so fulfilling and worth-dying.
